As someone who has seen many of the films produced for the website (fuck yeah sneak previews!), I can say in all honestly that they are beautifully filmed, sensitively edited, incredibly gorgeous, raw, powerful and most importantly, intensely sexy. Gala and Aven also have a talent for finding immensely attractive but diverse men who all have a real presence in front of the camera and seem really comfortable in their skin and sexuality.
I truly believe that this project is onto a very, very good thing. Watching these beautiful men indulging in self pleasure, seeing their face as they get lost in their own senses… well, for me it was as good as looking at a beautiful painting - a beautiful painting that made me need to take a cold shower afterwards. There were moments during some of the films when I gasped, there were moments when I felt my face getting hot, there were moments when I even felt a little sad because male sexuality is every bit as rich, varied, beautiful and sexy as its female equivalent but it has been neglected for so long, considered crude, ugly, base.
Gentleman Handling gives male sexuality the attention and respect it deserves. So fuck yeah to that!

To call us ‘fake’ valorises masculinity above femininity, privileging ‘masculine’ or androgynous embodiment (an absence of make-up, hair-removal and accessories) as ‘real’ and represents femmes as superficial and trite dupes who cannot be considered serious feminist or queer subjects.
The irony is that you can never win – ‘appropriate femininity’ is unachievable. We are either too much or not enough. Our hyper-femininity is often so far beyond normative feminine ideals that it brings us social censure – our make-up is too thick, our heels are too high, our breasts are too large. As Rosalind Gill writes about women in media, our “bodies are evaluated, scrutinised and dissected” and are “always at risk of “failing.”

The absolutely awesome Gala Vanting (who is a dear friend of mine and former colleague from Feck, the makers of beautifulagony.com, ifeelmyself.com, ishotmyself.com and sonicerotica.com) has been invited to speak at the Berlin Porn Film Festival. The work Gala has done for Feck has been intelligent, beautiful and incredibly sexy. She recently started a new company with an equally amazing lady, Aven Frey, called Sensate Films and I’ve been lucky enough to have a sneak peak at the films they’ve produced so far. In my mind, the work Gala and Aven have done proves that porn can be beautiful, intimate, thoughtful and incredibly sexy art.
I believe that conscious, intelligent, educational, revolutionary and sex-positive porn is gradually gaining momentum and public acceptance but it still has a long way to go. It takes a lot of time, effort and passion to make alternative porn and despite the myths, it’s not a “get rich quick” thing. The people making alt porn are often doing it out of their own pockets (among other orifices!) they risk social stigma and don’t have nearly as much support as they deserve. It’s a tough job but such a rewarding and worthy one.
To be embarrassingly honest for a moment, I believe that people like Gala are going to go down in the history books (well, at least in my utopian future they will!). They are doing positive things for art, for human sexuality and for our bits. As such, I truly believe they deserve our support. Gala has started a chipin to help get her to the Berlin Porn festival and spread the word about the incredible things that have been going on in the wonderful world of alt porn down under (heh heh). So please, help out if you have a tiny bit of cash to spare and spread the word!
I apologise if posts like this are a little confronting for some people, by the way, but I am passionate about human sexuality - I believe repression is unhealthy and in fact dangerous so I always endeavour to be open about this stuff. I think we all should.
I am of the opinion that porn is a useful educational tool. I’ve worked on pornographic projects that I’ve also used in educational workshops, and have frequently received the feedback that my work and that of my colleagues has been used, at least in part, as learning material. We need to see diverse representations of pleasure in order to map out our own. We learn by watching, and then by doing. Tell me how you learned to cook. Tell me how you learned to ride a bike. You saw it done, and then you did it. Not always well. But so it goes. I’m happy to further discuss whether or not porn is a viable educational tool in the comments, but for the purposes of this piece, I’m taking it for granted that it is.
Youth can’t pay for porn. Their options are what’s shared between them, on and offline, and what they can find on the web for free. The tube sites (RedTube, YouPorn, and the like) run the whole gamut in terms of quality and content, from the sacred to the profane, and it’s no simple matter to screen for that which has value as a representation of real sexuality, and that which does not. Especially if you’re of an age at which you haven’t had enough experience to separate one from the other.
For those of us who make some or all of our living peddling smut, tube sites have become the bane of our existence. Well, that and government regulating bodies. And the ‘standards of the community’. And the shitty American dollar. But I digress. While I wish it weren’t so and I’d rather not advertise it, it’s fairly simple to find my content for free with a Google search. On one hand, I’m enraged that my image can be so freely dispersed and consumed with no compensation for my level of personal exposure, my labour, my vulnerability. On the other, what I make is a hell of a lot better than what a lot of other people make in terms of its ethics, its politics, and its aesthetics. It’s been made with attention to detail, with a value on aesthetics, with a personal agenda of raw self-exposure of my goddess-given body, and with an explicitly sex-positivist perspective. Not all of that is immediately visible when you control-click save-link-as, but it does show if you look closely enough. And I do think youth are looking closely.

This is an amazing project and I’m so happy to be a part of it!
First of all it’s filthy, dirty, beautiful, sex comics which of course I love.
Second of all every story is either written or drawn by a lady, so it’s all lady friendly!
Third of all every artist in the book was paid well for their work (which unfortunately is a rarity in comics.)
Fourth of all it is FULL of amazing artists that I myself am a huge, sloppy fan girl about!Not to mention if the kickstarter goes over it’s goal all those amazing artists will get bonuses for their hard work. Artists getting paid is something that should be the standard anyway, but bonuses? Hot dog.
